Har-Ber High School

The Har-Ber Wildcats took to the pool this past Friday at the BWHS Invite. The A-Relay consisting of Abigail Livingston, Saylor Wilson, Emily Reaves and Sarah Pope qualified for state in the 200 Medley Relay. Saylor dropped time in her 200 IM for her high school swim career by 4 seconds and earned a state time in that event. Both Emily and Sarah had a top 16 finish in the 50 free inching closer to a state cut in those events. David Wallace qualified for state in another individual event, he finished 6th in the 200 free. He also finished 2nd out of the whole meet in the 100 free. These swimmers will continue to train looking forward to their next swim meet Jan. 27th at the Jones Center.

On Wednesday, students from Har-Ber High School, Springdale High School, and the Don Tyson School of Innovation were presented with Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy certificates. Three hundred and three students from across the state passed the exam. One hundred and sixty three were from the Springdale School District! The Seal of Biliteracy is awarded when students demonstrate proficiency in more than one language. Congratulations to the students for earning this prestigious award!

Attention Junior Parents, This is a reminder that all Junior students will have the opportunity to take the ACT on March 10th. During the month of November, students received an ACT packet to explain testing and additional testing options. In the packet, you will find a very important document called the ACT accommodations form (blue form). If your student receives Special Education or ESL services, they have the opportunity to apply for accommodations for the ACT. All accommodation forms are due to the front office by Friday, December 20th. No forms will be accepted after this date. Today, additional ACT packets have been mailed home to all Juniors. Har-Ber High School will host a FAFSA Help Night on Tuesday Dec 3. It will be held from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Seminar Room. Representatives from Northwest Arkansas Community College will be on campus. We will also have interpreters available.

All Basketball teams hit the road today!!! JV girls tip off @ 4:30 in Clarksville! Followed by JV Boys, VG @6 and VB 7:30. Go Wildcats!!

The swimming Wildcats took to the pool last Thursday competing against SHS, RHS & HHS. Both boys and girls finished 2nd overall. Emily Reaves and Sarah Pope both swept their events with a 1st place finish. Abigail Livingston came in to support the team by finishing 2nd in both of her events. The girls won 6 out of 8 individual events. Max Simmons had a 27 second time drop from his previous 100 freestyle race. David Wallace edged out the competition in both of his individual races by finishing 1st. Homero Ruiz finished 3rd in the 100 fly. Lucas Schaben finished 3rd as well in the 100 back. The team is edging closer and closer to state cut times. They hope to earn more times Dec. 6 at the Bentonville Community Center, 4pm.

Last week, Har-Ber FFA members competed in Siloam Springs against other chapters from around the state in Leadership Development Contests. The Parliamentary Procedure team won 3rd place, Caylor Howard won 3rd place in Discussion Meet, and Alexis Fiorentino won 2nd place in Extemporaneous Speaking. Go AG Cats!

The How to Pay for College Night, scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, at HBHS has been cancelled. We will post the rescheduled date when determined.

On March 10th, Juniors at Har-Ber High School have the opportunity to take the ACT test. The test is free to all Juniors who wish to take the exam. If a four year college is not the plan for your student, they will also have the opportunity to take the ACCUPLACER (college entrance exam for schools like NWAAC or NTI) or ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) on March 10th. Wednesday, November 13th, Juniors will receive a packet that explains testing options. Each packet includes three forms that give you options when it comes to testing. If your student has an IEP, 504 plan, or receives ELL supports, you have the option to apply for accommodations on the ACT. The blue form in the packet will give you this option. On November 18th, 10th and 12th grade students will take the Arkansas Prevention Needs Survey. This survey asks students questions related to health and safety, and it's completely confidential. 10th and 12th grade students received a survey overview form during Advisory; the form gives parents more details about the survey, and it should only be returned if you would like your student to opt out of the survey. All signed forms must be submitted to the front office by Friday, November 15th in order for a student not participate. Forms received after the deadline will not be accepted. This past Saturday the Har-Ber Girls finished 5th out 13th and the Boys finished 4th out of 15th at the FHS Invite. The girls "A" 200 Medley Relay team consisting of Sarah Pope, Saylor Wilson, Emily Reaves and the anchor Anna Claire Marvin edged out everyone else in the competition by finishing 1st! That set up Emily Reaves to earn her state cut in the 200 Individual Medley and a 2nd place finish in the 50 free. Sarah Pope brought it home in the 100 free finishing 2nd. Homero Ruiz went a personal season best in the 50 free. David Wallace did a lot for the team. He finished 1st in the 100 free and 2nd in the 200 Individual Medley, he earned a state cut in both of those events. The next swim meet will be on November 21st at the Jones Center, 6pm. Go Cats!

We are proud of our Silver Stars. This past weekend, they participated in the 2019 State Dance Competition. Har-Ber Silver Stars placed 3rd in the State in the Jazz and Kick, and 4th in Pom. They received 4th Place Overall!! Congratulations to the Silver Stars!
